The Deep-Sea Drop-Offs (Outer Atoll Walls)

This is where the shallow atoll plateau plunges straight down into thousands of meters of open Indian Ocean. The Geography: 15+ miles off the coastlines of Ukulhas, Thoddoo, and Feridhoo. The Fishing Style: Blue-water trolling with heavy tackle, artificial lures, and skirted baits.

Atoll Channels & Passes (Kandus)

Channels are the oceanic "highways" where the open ocean squeezes into the inner lagoon, creating incredibly powerful, nutrient-rich currents. The Geography: The deep corridors near Rasdhoo Atoll and the fast-flowing Madivaru Channel. The Fishing Style: Live-bait drifting, deep vertical jigging, and medium-tackle trolling. The Vibe: High-current action. When the tide changes, these passes turn into an absolute feeding frenzy.

Shallow Barrier Reefs & Pinnacles (Thilas)

The inner structure of the atoll, made up of submerged coral mountains (Thilas) and shallow reef flats. The Geography: The fringing reefs surrounding Mathiveri, Bodufolhudhoo, and isolated mid-lagoon coral structures. The Fishing Style: Topwater popping, stick bait casting, and light-tackle reef spinning. The Vibe: Visual, fast-paced, and precision fishing. You will see the reef below you and often watch the fish track and smash your bait in crystal-clear water.

The High Season

October — May

During the northeast monsoon, the waters are calm and clear. This is the prime time for Blue Marlin and Sailfish in the deep channels.
